The ledger gave me the transfer times before I paid, so no day ran long by accident. We reached the square at seven, an hour before the coaches arrived.
Two nights were enough to understand why the lodging note pointed at the lower town. Breakfast in the courtyard, then the stairway up before the heat.
We swapped one coach leg for rail and the afternoon opened up. The route said two hours and forty minutes, and that is what it took.
