Heritage register

Three regions we walk, read and lodge inside

Every corridor is documented the same way: what stands there, when it was built, and where you sleep after the walk.

Region 01 · Galicia and Podolia

Arcaded squares and fortress walls

Lviv's Rynok Square and the Podolian cliff town of Kamianets-Podilskyi set the pace: burgher frontages in the morning, a rebuilt fortress in the afternoon, 1h 50m of coach between them. Lodging sits inside the pedestrian ring.

  • Rynok Square, Lviv · 16th-century frontages with arcaded courtyards
  • Kamianets-Podilskyi fortress · seven towers rebuilt across four centuries
  • Zhovkva market square · Renaissance plan under shingle eaves
Baroque gable and bridge tower above a cobbled street in the Lesser Town of Prague
Prague, Lesser Town · Baroque gables framed by a 14th-century bridge tower

Region 02 · Bohemia and Moravia

Gables, cloisters and a stone bridge

Two days in Prague, one in Brno. The reading order runs from the Charles Bridge towers to the Villa Tugendhat, so medieval and modern sit in the same afternoon. Transfer by rail, 2h 30m.

Region 03 · Danube and Burgenland

Danube bends, low hills, plain chapels

The final corridor is quieter: village churches with painted ceilings, vineyard terraces above the river, and a 1h 10m crossing to Bratislava. Rooms are chosen for walkability, not star count.

Lodging typologies

Three tiers compared on five criteria, not on price cards

Every journey names the tier it uses, so the lodging note on a route row tells you what the walk back to the room actually costs you in minutes.
